Everton are being linked with Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin Caricol as they will be looking to bolster their squad for next season. Martin has been a regular feature down the left for his team and has racked up 34 appearances in all competitions this season. He is just 21 and has represented Spain at various age level tournaments.
Everton were expected to have a good season as they made some impressive signings for good money in the summer transfer window. However, they started off poorly under Ronald Koeman and were languishing in the bottom half of the table. Their fortunes slowly turned under the experienced Sam Allardyce and he has ensured a top half finish for the Toffees.
Backed by new owners, Everton were likely to fight for a Europa League spot but they were out of the running because of their dismal start to the season. However, if Sam Allardyce stays, he will be looking to bring in reinforcements as the fans would surely want them to challenge for a European spot next season. The Merseyside club has an able and experienced option in the left back position in Leighton Baines but they have struggled when he has been out injured and that is where a signing like Martin Caricol might come in handy. To sign him, the Toffees will have to shell out €15m.
Everton have managed just 10 clean sheets in the Premier League this season and one would expect them to do better on the defensive front. When Leighton Baines has been out injured, the likes of Cuco Martina and Mason Holgate has filled in the left back role who are traditionally right back players.
Sam Allardyce has done a good job with the Toffees but it seems that there still remains discontent among the fans as Allardyce’s team has been eeking out narrow results instead of dominating them. It seems that the Everton fans are fed up with constant mid-table finishes over the years and they want their team to push for top spot.

It will be interesting to see whether Caricol will be able to adjust his game to the challenges of English football as the league is much more fast-paced and physical. The signing of the left-back will certainly bring the much-needed depth in the squad for the Merseyside club. Baines is edging close to 34 and the Toffees will require a long-term replacement for him and the talented Spanish defender can be a good bet.
