It has been a see-saw ride in the Premier League for Leicester City in the last few seasons. In 2014-15, the club were sure to relegated but a late run of victories saw them survive the drop. What followed can only be termed as a fairy tale. The Foxes made a title charge and much to the surprise and football fans across the world, they ended up with the champions medals.
The victory saw the club change overnight as they had won the right to play in Europe. Big name signings, better sponsorship deals and a chance to play with the elites of Europe meant that Leicester had it all. However, their title defence was rather weak and they failed to finish in the top six in the next campaign.
Star players like Jamie Vardy and Riyadh Mahrez were tipped to leave while their French ace N’Golo Kante had already joined Chelsea. Leicester’s poor title defence saw the club sack Claudio Ranieri and replace him with Craig Shakespeare.
The Englishman did a decent job but lacked conviction and it was only a matter of time before he too got the axe. Over the course of the current season, Leicester continued to perform poorly. The Foxes eventually parted ways with Shakespeare and brought in Claude Puel.
Puel changed the system of play and his little tweaks had instant effect. He made Leicester play the high-tempo, attacking football that had seen them become champions back in 2016. Puel also dealt brilliantly with the want-away star Mahrez and convinced the Algerian to give his best for the club after his transfer fell through.
However, Leicester’s performance in the recent weeks have suffered yet again and the club are now winless for almost a month. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games and it seems Puel too, might be on his way out. Their next match is up against Arsenal and this is how Puel will want to set his team up for the match.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence:
Ben Hamer is likely to continue in goal. Christian Fuchs should play from left back with Aleksandar Dragovic on the right. Harry Maguire and Wes Morgan are likely to be the two centre-backs.
Midfield:
Vicente Iborra and Hamza Choudhury might play as the two holding midfielders with Adrien Silva ahead of them.
Attack:
Demarai Gray might get a start from the left wing with Riyadh Mahrez on the right. Jamie Vardy can be expected to lead the line.
