Liverpool are interested in securing the services of Barcelona wide man Ousmane Dembele this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are plotting a move for the French youngster when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The 20-year-old winger signed for Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund last summer but his time at the Nou Camp has been plagued with injuries so far. He has failed to settle in Spain and so a move out of Catalunya looks set to be on the cards during the upcoming transfer period.
In the post-match interview, Jurgen Klopp addressed rumours linking the Reds with a move for Dembele and was quoted to have said, “Is he on the market? Now I’m interested.”
The French starlet has played a full match on just one occasion this season with most of his appearances for the Catalans coming from the bench. A serious muscle injury that was sustained last September kept him out of action for four months. It is believed that Dembele has fallen down the Barca pecking order with the likes of Phillipe Coutinho and Paco Alcacer being preferred ahead of him. Hence, he could opt for a switch this summer in search of greener pastures.
The Reds of Merseyside are currently occupying the 3rd spot in the league table with a tally of 72 points in 37 league fixtures. Jurgen Klopp will need to go into a transfer market this summer looking to strengthen his squad and increase his options ahead of the new campaign.
The addition of Dembele will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options as his team looks to mount a realistic title challenge next term. Liverpool have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vying for a place in the Reds first-team. The potential acquisition of Dembele will definitely add more competition for places within Klopp’s squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.
