Tottenham Hotspur will be travelling to the Hawthorns Stadium for their final away game of the season, to take on a relegation-certain West Brom side. Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be going into this fixture, knowing that maximum points will boost them to the third spot of the Premier League table, ahead of Liverpool.
This might just also be a top-four confirmation match for the visitors as Chelsea currently sit 5 points behind them in the points table. What has been a disappointing season in terms of gathering any form silverware could end on a warm note of simply obtaining the bragging rights over three of the country’s elites – Chelsea, Liverpool and bitter rivals, Arsenal.
Tottenham had a decent showing in the European stage but somehow fell off due to the lack of experience. Their FA Cup campaign was also promising but a loss to Manchester United bore no fruit in the end.
Maybe a closer association to the summit of the league table will be enough to motivate them for an improved 2018/19 season. Collecting all three points is almost a necessity after previous month’s 1-1 draw to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Spurs did manage to redeem themselves with a 2-0 win over Watford at the Wembley last weekend. A similar story will be hard to duplicate against a side as desperate as West Brom
The Baggies are undefeated in their last 4 games and have a slim to none chance of making a miraculous escape. That all depends on their ability to collect all three points in this tie.
Here is how Tottenham might lineup in order to resist the Albion force.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
Hugo Lloris should get the nod for the goalkeeping position ahead of Kevin Vorm.
Ben Davies and Serge Aurier are predicted starters in the fullback position with the latter fielded on the right. Danny Rose might have to keep sitting out for the remainder of the campaign.
Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez will also freeze out Toby Alderweireld from the starting spot. The Belgian’s departure is much anticipated, come July.
Midfield
Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele are predicted starters in the holding midfield role with Heung-min son, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli should find themselves taking up more offensive roles behind the striker.
Erik Lamela’s involvement will have to be from the benches.
Attack
Harry Kane to feature in the centre-forward role and grab the opportunity of closing Mohamed Salah to the golden boot.
