Chelsea had a dramatic few years at the club. They won the league title back in 2014-15 and displayed a terrible defence next year by finishing 10th in the league. They parted ways with Stamford Bridge’s most praised manager in Jose Mourinho and brought in the Italian taskmaster Antonio Conte.
Conte quickly put together a decent side and changed to a 3 men defensive system which brought the Blues immediate success. They went on to win the Premier League with a record number of wins in Conte’s very first season. However, things have been rather difficult this season and the Blues are now fighting to clinch a European spot.
Things with Conte have turned into a serious rift with the manager expected to leave at the end of the current season. The manager has been merciless in player treatment and while it has helped the club, there has been a couple of downsides as well. It saw Chelsea lose Diego Costa and now possibly David Luiz.
The latter had a bust-up with Conte at the end of last year and has been rarely spotted in the first team since. To be fair to the Brazilian, he has also missed a rather big chunk of it owing to an unfortunate injury. However, even when fit, Conte has not really relied on him.
The Senegalese defender has been in top form for Napoli in their title run this season. Koulibaly has been excellent in defence and presents a real aerial threat in the opposition box as well. Chelsea, who went in for him last year. is reportedly interested in him again.
The news becomes interesting for Chelsea here as Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis has identified Chelsea’s David Luiz as a replacement for Koulibaly. This would mean that the two clubs could be directly involved in a player plus cash deal.

Chelsea would be parting ways with the Brazilian in exchange for a top class defender with proven merits across Europe. However, the transfer is still in an infant stage and a lot depends on how things turn out in the next two weeks with Napoli chasing the title and Chelsea a European spot.
