Newcastle United are being linked with highly rated CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin. The talented Russian midfielder has been on the radar of quite a few Premier League clubs and it seems the Magpies have also joined the race for him.
Newcastle United have had a terrific last few months in the Premier League and they are currently sitting in the top half of the table. They were expected to be in a relegation scrap at this point in time but their performance of late has been top notch. The credit must go to Rafael Benitez because if one looks at the current Newcastle United squad, there is no particular player who stands out. But the Spanish mastermind has made this team into a well-oiled unit especially on the defensive front.
Golovin’s agent believes that now is the right time for the youngster to leave CSKA Moscow and move to the Premier League. He was quoted as saying,-”He needs to leave, as far as I know, there are specific offers from Premier League clubs but not from the top-six sides. I know that Southampton and Newcastle are showing an interest but not everything depends on Alexander, he has an active contract with CSKA.”
The Russian is traditionally an attacking midfielder but can play as a winger on both the wings. That makes him a terrific asset to have on the team. He is good with both his feet and has the ability to wriggle out of tight spaces. His distribution skills are up to the mark and he has an eye for a good pass. However, sometimes he is guilty of making the wrong choice in the final third of the pitch but he can certainly improve on that front if he continues playing at the top level.
”There is an amount that CSKA would like to gain from the transfer of Golovin. According to my information, the required amount of €20m, no-one is willing to give.But, ahead of the World Cup, maybe Alexander can capitalise. I sincerely wish for this.”- his agent further added.

The Magpies’ season has been built on strong defensive performances and Benitez is looking to add some firepower in the offensive department as they have struggled for goals this season. That is where Golovin comes into the picture as he is an able attacking midfielder. At just 21, he is considered as an important player for the Russians in the upcoming World Cup and if he can light up the tournament with his performances, his stocks will surely rise further.
