Leicester City are plotting a move for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans in the summer. According to recent reports, the Foxes are keen on sealing a move for the Northern Ireland international when the transfer window opens this summer.
It is understood that Claude Puel’s men are currently weighing up their options and could make an offer for Evans’ signature at the end of the current campaign. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a successful career at the Hawthorns and his solid displays in the English top-flight has alerted a whole host of clubs, which includes Leicester City. His defensive talents have caught the eyes of the Foxes chiefs, who are keeping tabs on his situation at West Brom.
The Belfast-born centre-back has a lot of experience in English football which is exactly what the former Premier League champions are looking for in the summer transfer period. However, the Northern Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order at the Hawthorns in recent weeks due to his inconsistency at the backline. Hence, it might prove to be a huge gamble for Puel’s team to bring him to the King Power Stadium in the near future as Evans enters the twilight of his career.
The West Midlands side have a tally of 44 points after Gameweek 35 and currently, find themselves in the 9th position in the league rankings. They are really slumped down the table which will see them miss out on European football for next season. Puel needs to make a few good additions this summer if his side are to push on and break into the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in the coming years.
The addition of Evans will undoubtedly bolster Claude Puel’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The Foxes have the likes of Wes Morgan, Harry Maguire, Robert Huth, Aleksander Dragovic and Yohan Benalouane vying for a place in Puel’s starting eleven. The potential acquisition of Evans will definitely strengthen their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Leicester squad.
Evans has made 30 appearances for the Baggies this season, scoring two goals and grabbing one assist across all competitions. At 30, he still has a few years left in him to play at the top level which the Foxes could look to capitalise on, in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Evans and whether he ends up making a switch to the King Power Stadium this summer.
