A move for West Brom defender, Jonny Evans was expected to take place in the winter transfer window. A race initially between Manchester City and Arsenal, became a one-horse race with Manchester City having shifted their attention to Aymeric Laporte and Arsenal emerged to be in the pole position for his signature. The Gunners could have made it a highly successful January transfer window by sweeping up Evans for £25 million.
The former Manchester United player has quite deservedly drawn high praise from fans and pundits for his impressive stint with the Baggies over the past two and a half seasons. The Northern Ireland international has been the best defensive element in the West Brom lineup despite the side falling to the relegation spot in the current campaign.
The best of Jonny Evans was seen at Old Trafford as well when Alex Ferguson was at the helm at Manchester United. The retired Scotsman fielded Evans in the centre back role ahead of a lot of talented options and won three league titles with him in the backline.
West Brom had already completed the move for Egyptian defender Ali Gabr to replace Evans and the transfer fee would have allowed Alan Pardew to make further necessary adjustments in the team. However, as things stand now Evans is in the team and Pardew has gotten the sack.
With just a handful of games to go, West Brom are surely going to get relegated with the team now 8 points adrift of safety. West Brom’s sack will definitely see the club lose top players like Evans. It is now widely known that the defender has an escape clause of just £3 million once West Brom gets relegated thereby making him a very luring target.
A host of English clubs like Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Leicester, Everton are interested in Evans and it would seem that he might end up in the Premier League after all. The scene with Palace is daunting with Roy Hodgson having pulled a magic rabbit out of the hat. Palace were winless after their first seven games, having put up 0 points on board.

After Hodgson came, he improved the team but could never get them to gel with most of his regular stars getting injured for long periods. This has seen Palace still suffering but they are more or less safe or relegation meaning that they can mount a better season next time and with Evans in the side, they can secure their backline.
