Arsenal have dropped out of the race to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are not interested in securing his services anymore as they are looking to pursue other transfer targets when the transfer window opens in the summer. The North London side are on the lookout for some new defenders to bolster their chances of a successful season under a new manager.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger announced last week that he is going to end his 22-year stay at the club this summer so it is highly likely that there would be a major overhaul of their squad this summer. Evans has attracted the attention of the Gunners in recent months but his dip in form at the Hawthorns could be one of the reasons why the North Londoners have dropped their interest on him.
However, it could be a huge boost for the Baggies as they prepare for life in the Championship later this year. Evans has made 30 appearances for the West Midlands club this season, scoring two goals while providing one assist in all competitions.
West Brom are in real danger of being relegated at the end of the campaign and are currently rock bottom of the league table with a tally of 25 points in 35 league fixtures. However, there have been signs of life in recent weeks following their hard-fought, a come-from-behind draw versus Liverpool last weekend.
Retaining some of their top players could go a long way in helping them have a strong campaign in the second tier of English football so that they can bounce back to the top-flight immediately next term. Evans has had a dip in form but he still has a lot of experience in English football which makes him a key asset for the Baggies.

The Northern Ireland international is also versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the backline. He primarily plays in central defence but can also be deployed as a left-back which makes him an integral member of the West Midlands team. At 30, Evans still has a good few years left in him to play at the highest level which the Baggies could look to utilise in the coming years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Evans and whether he ends up staying at the Hawthorns beyond this summer.
