The former Arsenal player was nothing less than a livewire on the pitch and made it possible for the Toffees to get an important win in the ending stages of the season.
With no chances of making it into the top six after having a mixed season so far, both Everton and Newcastle United, placed at the 9th and 10th position respectively, were eager to get the maximum points from this encounter. However, both were wasteful and were not able to get the ball into the opposition net till the 51st minute. Was unable to deal well with the opposition threats but for Jagielka. Set his partner up for a goal in the first half but looked shaky for the most part of the match.
Leighton Baines: 7
A rather uneventful match for the England international, who gave it his best on the left flank.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 8
Was definitely the best player on the pitch tonight. His fearless and calm approach towards the game from the word go was the highlight of the match for the Merseyside club. Hopefully, his injury, for which he was forced to be taken off, is not something serious.
Idrissa Guyue: 6
Looked quite unsettled in the first half and gave away the ball few times. Came into his own in the second half though.
Wayne Rooney: 5
Had a rather forgettable game. Was wasteful on a number of occasions.
Yannick Bolasie: 6
Did not have a good game, to say the least, except for the brilliant cross that produced the goal after he was switched to the right flank.
Theo Walcott: 8
Good work rate, looked brilliant on the ball and fought hard to get the opener for his side. A solid performance on the night.
Cenk Tosun: 7
Kept pushing for the goal and pressurised the opposition defenders to create space in the final third. Could not score a goal though.
