22 years and Arsene Wenger finally ends his reign at Arsenal! A shock to most of us but ironically not the most unexpected. The Frenchman will see out the rest of the season at North London but is on the market for a new management position. It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund are considering bringing in the 68-year-old for the next campaign.
Of course, speculation of Wenger’s next destination will be circling the media outlets and major clubs will be looking to bring in the 3-time Premier League winner. Dortmund have undergone a torrid season in terms of their title-challenge and their domestic cup campaign. The Europa League has not borne great fruit either, being knocked out by Red Bull Salzburg in the Round of 16.
The post-Jurgen Klopp era has been less decorated as the BVB fans had hoped and the Westfalstadion is desperate to see a significant change soon. Peter Stoger’s work has been critiqued over the course of the season and quite rightfully so. The former FC Koln head coach has struggled to match up against the local rivals and the lack of European experience is evident in his tactical approach.
He might have been crippled with the depleted squad he has had to work with but it should not excuse some of the clear mistakes the team has made over the tenure of his management. Bayern Munich was allowed to run riot over the Black and Yellows earlier in the year as Stoger picked up the pieces from the 6-0 battering at the Allianz Arena. Second-placed, FC Schalke were also allowed a ton of space on the wide areas which eventually helped them to a 2-0 win over Dortmund last week.
We are all fond of the time when the front line of Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus were tearing open the defences of European superpowers. The fast-paced attacking style of play which encapsulated viewers and terrorized opposition team.
Dortmund seemed to have found the golden ticket with the squad they had developed and gathered under Klopp. But following the departure of both the manager and some of the key figures, the club has struggled to replicate that same winning pedigree.

They need a stable figure who would be able to rebuild the club from the ground up, rather than spending heaps of cash they do not have for short-term gains. Wenger is the ideal man for the job and he could once again resurrect the team to top European status.
