Liverpool are eager to secure the services of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are planning to make a move for the La Liga shot-stopper when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, it is believed that Jurgen Klopp’s team would be required to meet his massive €100m release clause to bring him to Merseyside.
The Slovenia international joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in the summer of 2014. Oblak has put in some eye-catching displays for the Madrid outfit over the last few years and can be considered as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has backed Loris Karius as his new no. 1 keeper for the time being but he could be on the lookout for a new shot-stopper in the summer transfer period to help his team bridge the gap to Manchester City in the Premier League.
The Reds are eager to bring in a world-class keeper to put an end to their defensive frailties next season. Klopp’s side has been sensational going forward but they have leaked in some cheap goals which have cost them some results. The Merseysiders could face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Juventus in pursuit of the Oblak’s signature in the off-season.
Liverpool are currently occupying the 3rd spot in the Premier League rankings with a tally of 71 points after playing 35 fixtures in the league. They were held to a 2-2 draw at the weekend against a struggling West Bromwich Albion side but will now look to bounce back versus AS Roma in midweek.
The potential addition of Oblak will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s goalkeeping options ahead of the new campaign. The Reds have the likes of Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward vying for a place in Klopp’s starting eleven. The acquisition of Oblak will definitely improve their squad significantly and add more competition for places within the Liverpool team.

The Slovenia international has featured in 43 matches for Atletico Madrid this season, conceding 23 goals while keeping 26 clean sheets in all competitions. At 25, Oblak still has his peak years ahead of him which the Merseyside outfit could look to capitalise on, in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Oblak and whether he ends up making a move to Anfield in the near future.
