Manchester United are looking to secure the services of Sevilla centre-back Clément Lenglet this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are planning on landing the French defensive ace when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, Jose Mourinho’s side could face stiff competition from Barcelona in pursuit of the 22-year-old defender’s signature in the off-season.
The French Under-21 international caught the eye when he put in a brilliant display in United’s Champions League loss to Sevilla last month. It is believed that the Reds of Manchester have sent scouts to catch him in action in recent weeks. United are planning a massive overhaul of their defence this summer and could choose to make a move for his services. He can operate in both centre-back positions which makes him a perfect fit for the Red Devils.
Some sources are claiming that the La Liga side are looking for a fee in the region of £20m for their prized asset. The French youngster has featured heavily for Sevilla this season and has had a solid campaign so far. He signed for Vincenzo Montella’s side in the winter transfer period of 2017 from AS Nancy and has relatively done well during his time at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Mourinho’s men are currently lying in the second spot in the Premier League table with a tally of 74 points in 34 league encounters. They have also managed to progress into the final of the FA Cup after their 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The addition of Lenglet will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’ defensive options in the future as they look to compete for some league titles in the coming years. The 22-year-old French starlet has immense potential and can be nurtured into a future star at Old Trafford if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the top tier of English football. At 22, Lenglet has enough time to develop and adapt his game to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.
