Birmingham City are looking to secure the services of Leeds United winger Pablo Hernandez this summer. According to recent reports, the Blues of West Midlands are planning to snap up the Peacocks wide man when the transfer window opens in the summer. The Spanish playmaker will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign. He has been heavily touted to make a move to the St. Andrew’s Stadium in recent weeks and set up a reunion with Garry Monk and his coaching staff.
Hernandez has previously worked with Birmingham City boss, Monk during their time at Swansea City and Leeds United. It is believed that Birmingham City boss rates him quite highly and could make a move for the Spaniard’s signature in the off-season. Monk’s main goal is to avoid relegation at all costs with just goal difference separating the Blues from safety going into the final few matches of the season.
The Spanish wide man has featured in 41 matches for the Peacocks this season, scoring 9 goals and grabbing 10 goals in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of player that the West Midlands side are looking to sign, ahead of the new season. In a recent interview, Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom addressed Hernandez’s future and was quoted to have said, “I’ve had chats with Pablo in terms of football, him himself, us as a club and everything was positive.
“Pablo’s driven by football rather than money and things like that, he’s driven by his heart. He likes it here, his family’s settled here. So things like that are positive, always.
“But there could be other people turning his head, speaking in those terms with him, trying to capture his heart at other clubs and that’s the position we find ourselves in because of his contract situation.
“So we’ll try as hard as we can. He knows where I stand on it and that’s it, that’s all we can do.”
The Peacocks are currently occupying the 14th spot in the English Championship table with a tally of 54 points in 43 league encounters. They are in dire need to bring in some quality players to help them in their quest of earning a promotion back to the English top-flight next season.
Retaining some of their top talents like Hernandez could go a long way in helping them accomplish their goals in the coming years. The Spaniard’s exit will definitely leave the Peacocks’ squad significantly depleted as he has been one of their main sources for goals and assists this season.

At 33, the former Swansea City winger still has a few good years left in him which the Blues could look to utilise in the near future. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Hernandez and whether he ends up making a switch out of West Yorkshire this summer.
