Rangers FC have opened up an investigation into Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller’s probable fall-out with the manager, Graeme Murty. Both the players have been suspended indefinitely and their final treatment will be delivered after the conclusion of the entire process.
Reports claim that both the veteran players had entered into an impolite conversation with the club manager after the Scottish Cup Semi Final 4-0 loss to bitter rivals, Celtic. Both of the players have been asked to stay clear of the club and the Ibrox Stadium until further notice.
The manager did take time to address the issue after the game and said, “There was anger, frustration, all the sorts of emotion you would expect from a changing room that has just gone through that. There should be frustration and anger. It is just about turning that into positives and energy to power you through to the end of the season rather than allow it to be disruptive.”
When asked about his stance towards the players, Murty replied, “Nothing. It’s too raw now. All it’s going to do is lead to conflict and finger-pointing. Maybe that’s what it needs, but right now we are here to regroup because we have five big games to go. We need to make sure we finish off the season strongly.”
This definitely has the potential of ending ties between the players and the club. Wallace has not been involved for the Gers due to a groin injury but was inching closer to a return. He has managed to appear in only 7 games this season but has over 250 appearances for the Light Blues in his 7-year association with the club.
Wallace has also been capped 9 times for Scotland 18 times for the U19, U20 and U21 sides. He is a major part of the Ibrox side even though most of the current campaign has been spent on the sidelines.
If Rangers decide to take strict action and plan on selling the player next summer, here a few Championship clubs who should consider the 30-year-old’s services.
Reading
Sure they have Jordan Obita in the position with Tyler Blackett as a backup but the latter will be entering the last year of his contract following this season. If Paul Clement decides on selling Blackett to recoup some money out of him, Wallace could be prime replace with heaps of top-flight experience.
Brentford
Rico Henry’s knee injury looks more serious than passing flu. The 20-year-old’s road back to recovery has been long and arduous. Tom Fields might have proven to be a wonderful second option but the Bees should consider making an approach for the experienced Scotsman.
Aston Villa
The Villans will be clearing house this summer and will be left with just Neil Taylor in the left-back position.
