According to recent reports, the heavyweight clash between Benfica and Porto attracted a lot of Premier League scouts to Estadio De Luz stadium and Liverpool seem interested in the Porto midfielder Hector Herrera. Herrera went on to score the winner in the 90th minute to silence the home fans and send the away fans into euphoric celebrations as Porto managed to beat their rivals 1-0.
Porto has a history of making some shrewd signings and they end up making a huge profit by selling them to bigger clubs. They will be looking to do the same if some big club wants to acquire the services of Herrera as he is an important player for them.
Liverpool are enjoying a good season under Jurgen Klopp as they are in with a chance of winning the Champions League this season. They are expected to secure a top 4 spot by the end of the season and that will also be considered as a success for the Reds. Liverpool have done well on the back of inspired performance from their front trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino and the Merseyside club will be hoping that they remain in good form to earn them the coveted Champions League trophy.
Liverpool are currently sweating over Emre Can’s contract as the German has still not committed his future at the club. This could mean that Can is interested in leaving the Reds and that can leave a void in Liverpool’s midfield as Emre Can has featured regularly for them in that position. Currently, he is injured and its left to Milner, Henderson and Chamberlain to do the job in midfield. Henderson was suspended for the second leg tie against Manchester City and Wijnaldum who is traditionally an attacking midfielder had to fill in the number 6 role.
If Emre Can is keen on leaving, Klopp might look for a midfielder in the transfer market. Herrera is a classic box to box midfielder as he is adept in stopping opposition attacks as well as creating opportunities for his own team. He is a tireless runner and will provide legs for the ‘Gegenpressing’ which Klopp wants from his players.

Liverpool have already secured the services of Naby Keita in the previous summer transfer window. The Leipzig man is also a traditional box to box midfielder. It will be interesting to see whether Klopp will go for Herrera but in a situation where Can decides to leave the club, it won’t be a bad idea for him to bring someone like Hector Herrera to add some much-needed depth in the squad.
