AS Roma keeper Alisson Becker will not depart the Serie A club this summer. According to Roma’s club president James Pallotta, the Italian giants won’t sell their prized asset when the transfer window opens in the summer. The Brazilian goalkeeper has put in some marvellous performances in goal for Roma during the course of this season which has alerted both Liverpool and Real Madrid. The duo are now being linked with a move for him in the summer as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new campaign.
The Italian side is yet to concede a goal at home in the UEFA Champions League this season which has mainly been down the shot-stopping contributions of Alisson. In a recent interview, Pallotta revealed that the club has no intention of parting ways with their prized asset in the off-season. He was quoted to have said, “We have no intention of selling him,”
“I mean zero at all. I’m sure some people will probably come in with some bids, but I don’t have any interest in selling him, he’s a great goalkeeper.
“When we got him, I thought the same thing and as far as I’m concerned, I mean no.”
Liverpool are currently occupying the 3rd position in the top-flight rankings after securing a comfortable 3-0 victory at home in their last league outing. They also have a semi-final date with AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League coming up next week.
The potential acquisition of Alisson would go a long way in helping them close the gap between themselves and Manchester City in the next campaign. The five-time European champions need a top quality keeper if they are to challenge for silverware next term and in Alisson, that’s exactly what they will be getting. However, missing out on his talents will be a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp as there are only a limited number of world-class keepers in European football.

The Merseyside outfit has had a leaky defence, to say the least, during the course of this campaign. The Reds’ goalkeeping duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has conceded 35 goals in 34 Premier League matches. The addition of Alisson might be a significant upgrade over the pair going into what is expected to be another highly competitive Premier League season next season. The Brazilian shot-stopper has made 42 appearances for Roma in this campaign, conceding 38 goals and keeping 19 clean sheets in all competitions. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Alisson and whether he ends up making a switch to Merseyside in the near future.
