Latest reports claim that Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian has accepted the transfer approach made by Juventus for his services. The 28-year-old has verbally communicated his intentions to the bosses at Turin and that quitting United is high on his priority list.
The fullback has barely seen the pitch over the course of the season with just 847 minutes registered and this has severely diminished his chances of getting called up by the Italian national team.
Jose Mourinho has completely ignored the 28-year-old’s case for selection even when he did not have an out-and-out left-back in the squad. The Portuguese tactician has implemented Ashley Young in the role as a makeshift option with Luke Shaw featuring as a rotational option. It is clear that Darmian’s future at Old Trafford is doomed for failure and it would be the right move for all parties to end relations after this season.
Darmian is on the second-last year of his contract with the Red Devils and teams can capitalize on the situation by acquiring him for cheap. 36 caps for the national team and 150 appearances for Serie A outfit, Torino is a quality resume which is bound to attract offers from top European sides, Juventus clearly being the best out of them all.
Darmian is ideally suited to the right-back position mostly attributing to his dominant right leg but can appear on the left as well. He is not the paciest as far as modern Premier League fullbacks like Kyle Walker and Hector Bellerin go, but he is not short of defensive traits either.
Granted the pace has been exploited by plenty of wingers in the past, Alexis Sanchez being the most notorious during his time with Arsenal but Darmian is capable of making adjustments. His footballing intelligence is quite adept on both ends of the pitch and has borne fruit under the management of Louis Van Gaal.
Players like Arbeloa, Dani Alves and Philipp Lahm are not necessarily the fastest players to have played in the position but have managed to play for some of the best teams in Europe throughout their career.
The time away from the pitch might have caused some rust to settle into the boots of Darmian but it can be dusted off by a new club next season. He is well proven in the Italian league and is accustomed to the defensive structure they implement.

Juventus will miss the services of Stephan Lichtsteiner next season but still have Mattia De Sciglio as their first option. Darmian can be a wonderful rotational option while the team competes for major honours in multiple competitions.
