Manchester United were euphoric last week for having stopped Manchester City from winning the league against them. They were down 2-0 at halftime and went on to make an epic come back in the second. They scored 3 goals thanks to Paul Pogba’s brilliance, who chipped in with two quick goals to turn the tide in the favour of the Red Devils.
They have delayed the inevitable for now but it will happen soon. However, United will have their own plates full and will want to secure the fact that they are in the UEFA Champions League next season. They will find a good way to do it by beating the weakest team in the league in West Brom.
Here is how they will look to line up against the Baggies.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence
The ever dependable David De Gea can be expected in goal once again between the sticks. The hard-working Ashley Young can be expected at left back with Antonio Valencia playing at the right back and leading the team for one more time. Phil Jones will be expected at centre back but Victor Lindelof may be given a rest with Mourinho going for Eric Bailly to partner Jones.
Midfield
The trusted dual axis of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba will once again operate the base of the United midfield. Although Matic is looking increasingly fatigued after each match having played almost every match this season and unless the Serbian is given some rest, he may be suffering from a burnout. As for Pogba, United will once again look to their record signing for some inspiration.
The number 10 role is likely to go to Juan Mata this time with Lingard staying on the bench for the match against West Brom. Alexis Sanchez will be open to playing from the right wing and the Chilean will want to get some goals under his belt. Anthony Martial will be seen once again operating from the left flank with United hoping that the Frenchman will be able to cause some havoc from his side with his dribbling and shooting skills.
Attack
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic now gone, Romelu Lukaku will get the chance to start from the top once again as has been the norm this season. Lukaku will be coming up against a team who he used to play for a while on loan and will remember his time there fondly for scoring a hattrick against Manchester United on their last match under Sir Alex Ferguson.
