Arsenal, who are coming on the back of securing a last four place in Europa league, will be travelling to St. James’s Park to face Newcastle United. Arsenal’s recent form in all competitions has been good as they have won 5 out of their last six games. They were given bit off a scare in Moscow as CSKA were leading 2-0 and one more goal from them would have shifted the tie in their favour. But Arsenal pulled back and scored through Welbeck and Ramsey. It ended 2-2 on the night and the Gunners progressed through to the next round with a 6-3 win on aggregate.
Arsenal had to dig deep in their last Premier League encounter against the relegation-threatened Southampton. They manage to see them off with a 3-2 victory and are now just three points behind 5th placed Chelsea. That’s the best that Arsenal can achieve this season as Spurs who are at fourth are 13 points above them with just 6 fixtures remaining.
Arsenal’s priority right now will be the Europa League as that is the only way they can sneak through a Champions League spot for the next season. They have been paired against the very fancied and tournament favourites Atletico Madrid for the semi-final clash. Wenger has managed to turn it around lately as they have won last three Premier League encounters after a runoff bad results which saw the London team losing four times in five games.
Here is how Arsenal will most likely line up for their trip to the Tyneside club.
Defence
Petr Cech, who is having an average season according to his standard will be starting in goal as Ospina is nursing an ankle injury. Mustafi and Koscielny will be the most likely centre-back pairing. Arsenal’s defence this season has come under a lot of criticism and Mustafi has been behind quite a few errors. Nevertheless, he will be expected to keep his place and Bellerin and Kolasinac will play in their usual fullback roles.
Midfield
Wilshere and Ramsey both might be rested as they are carrying niggles. Elneny will, therefore, start having had his red card against Southampton overturned. Xhaka will be expected to start as he missed the trip to Russia due to illness and is expected to recover. Iwobi, Ozil and Welbeck will provide an attacking threat from midfield.
