Chelsea are plotting a summer move for OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri. According to recent reports, the Blues are planning to make a swoop for the Ivory Coast international when the transfer window opens in the summer. However, Antonio Conte’s side could face strong competition from Manchester City in pursuit of the Ligue 1 ace’s signature.
Barcelona agreed to personal terms with the Ivorian Coast midfielder last summer but a move failed to materialize after the Catalans were reluctant to meet Nice’s valuation of their prized asset. The 26-year-old midfield enforcer has made 37 appearances for the French club this season, scoring a goal and providing 7 assists in all competitions. He also has 18 international caps for the Ivory Coast national team and one international goal to his name for his country.
Seri has a £34.8m release clause in his current contract with Nice which could pave the way for a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer. He has been in majestic form for the Ligue 1 outfit over the last few years and his eye-catching performances have alerted some of Europe’s elite clubs. At 26, he still has his peak years ahead of him which the Blues could look to capitalize on in the coming years.
The West Londoners are currently sitting in the 5th position in the Premier League rankings with a tally of 57 points in 32 matches. They are still in the FA Cup and has a great chance of progressing into the final of England’s premier cup competition if they can beat Southampton later this month.
The addition of Seri will undoubtedly bolster Conte’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. Chelsea have the likes of Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kanté, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas vying for a place in the Blues’ first-team. The potential acquisition of Seri will definitely add more competition for places in Antonio Conte’s squad.

The Frenchman is exactly the kind of player that Chelsea are looking for and will be a viable option to be the long-term replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who is going into the twilight of his career. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Seri and whether Chelsea can fend off stiff competition from Manchester City in their quest to bring him to West London in the near future.
