Another historic night was witnessed in the Champions League tonight with Barcelona crashing out after losing 3-0 to AS Roma on the night. The Catalan giants were subjected to a shock comeback and did little on the pitch to stop the Romans. Here is how the players performed.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen: 7.5
The best Barcelona player on the night by far. He was on his game and made a few excellent saves including a stunning coup near the end of the match to keep his team in the tie. However, his defence failed on multiple occasions leading to him conceding 3 goals on the night.
Nelson Semedo: 3.5
The Portuguese was caught out by the intensity of the Roman side. Valverde wil; be ruing his choice to play Semedo at right back as the defender made several mistakes and was not at all effective.
Gerard Pique: 4
He has been at the club for almost a decade now and should be better than what he was tonight. Conceded a sloppy and lazy penalty by making a careless challenge on Dzeko. His performance portrayed Barcelona’s game on the night; not good enough.
Samuel Umtiti: 2.5
A horrific game from the Frenchman. He was caught ball watching for the first goal, caught ball watching Pique and Dzeko again for the second goal and left his man on a free run for the third goal. Should be benched for some time to reflect on his lack of professional defending.
Jordi Alba: 4.5
Useful in attack but was extremely lazy in defence and was at fault like Umtiti for the first goal of the night.
Sergi Roberto: 4
Played in midfield to deploy crosses and a defensive shield. He could neither and was sloppy with his passing as well.
Sergio Busquets: 4.5
He was clearly in pain and his lack of defensive strength showed his team’s weakness without him. He was outmuscled by the Italian club’s midfield and could do little more as he was in great pain.
Ivan Rakitic: 4
Off his game tonight, he failed to make his mark on the game. He was certainly slow and could have done to be more proactive.
Andres Iniesta: 5.5
Good on the ball when he had it. Absolutely useless without the ball. He needed more time and more help as the Romans ran him over in midfield.
Lionel Messi: 6
Surely not going to get a bad match like he did tonight. He was off his game, failed to make his mark on the match. He could do little as he was overpowered by multiple red shirts every time he got the ball.
Luis Suarez: 4.5
He cut a frustrated and annoying figure as he was completely useless tonight.
