Rangers, the Glasgow giants, returned to the top flight of Premiership last season but failed to reconquer the lost glory and contest great rivals Celtic for a title challenge. The appointment of Pedro Caixinha did not work out as the Portuguese manager failed miserably with his recruitments as well as tactics and the Gers once again failed to match the Hoops’ standards throughout the season. Caixinha’s dismissal allowed former U20s boss Graeme Murty to sort out the conundrum following some impressive winter business but their failure against Celtic in the Old Firm derby pointed out the gap between these two age-old rivals in terms of quality, mentality and managerial supremacy.
Rangers were tipped to find a new manager upon completion of the ongoing campaign and the rumor got its confirmation when chairman Dave King addressed the same by stating that the club must make ‘ best appointment‘.
“Whoever is appointed must be able to meet the unique challenges of managing Rangers and ensuring immediate success.
“It is a priority that we commence next season with the best appointment we can make and that we move forward rapidly. Rangers is synonymous with winning and I want to repeat my commitment that neither I nor any of the other directors, will consider our work complete until Rangers has been restored to the top of our game.”
The supporters, therefore, are expecting a high-profile appointment this term and the former Ajax boss Frank De Boer is now bookies’ favorite to become the next Gers boss. The Dutch legend had a previous short stint during his playing days at Ibrox and despite the latest misfortunes at Inter Milan and Crystal Palace, de Boer is still one of the highly-rated manages in Europe.
Celtic are on course of clinching successive domestic trebles since appointing Brendan Rodgers last season and the Light Blues are in desperate need to recruit someone on a par with the ex-Liverpool gaffer. Caixinha was a gamble which did not pay off and the management must be looking for someone who holds success of highest order and also available to accept the challenge of re-establishing their legacy.
Frank de Boer is indeed successful as a manager who incredibly guided Ajax to win four consecutive Eredivisie titles in the span of 2010-2014 before his failed stints in Italy and England. He, however, was not handed much time to settle in on both the occasions but a job at Ibrox might hand him the platform to redefine his managerial excellence. Rangers need significant investment in summer to close the gap with Celtic and eventually draw an end to their glorious realm in Scottish football. His network and influence of highest order will allow the Gers to conclude smart transfers and strengthening themselves for seasons to come. His name was making the headlines before Murty’s appointment until the end of the season and the Dutchman did not rule out the option of returning to Scotland at that time.

“As a player, I played football for a while and the atmosphere was fantastic, you never know if I will go back, we have to look at the possibilities.”
The Light Blues, therefore, must grab his signing if they wish to unfold a new era and regain the lost charm by ruling the Scottish football.
