Manchester United continues to be heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s inventive winger, Neymar with Real Madrid touted to be the heavy favourites. Recent reports state that Jose Mourinho has offered Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial in exchange for the Brazilian international along with a purse of £50m.
If true, this could prove to be both lucrative and damaging to the United team. While Pogba might not be in prolific form this season, he is an essential component in their midfield and the beating heart of everything creative on the pitch.
The Frenchman has flair and skill which is second to none and brings a different dynamic to the Red Devils midfield. In his absence with injury, Mourinho struggled to find enough firepower from the middle of the park.
Between Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick, Pogba is the only one who can make the team tick from the middle of the park. He can break down defences with his vision and playmaking abilities and as witnessed in the Manchester derby, can score the odd goals and end up winning you such important games.
The 25-year-old answered all his critics with a brace against City in weekend fixture within a span of two minutes.
Losing him could prove to be a major play in United’s future but that can be debated over the arrival of Neymar as well. The Brazilian might just get the edge in terms of the end product and European pedigree.
Neymar already has Champions League-winning experience with Barcelona and is one of the world’s best in his position. The entire decision to switch sides with PSG was warranted was because of his wishes to escape the shadow of Lionel Messi.
While Neymar might be a star in Brazil, he might never have been able to eclipse Messi in the Blaugrana and in the Balon d’Or race. But the Ligue 1 outfit have failed to meet his ambitions as well.
The Parisians got knocked out of the Champions League in the Round of 16 itself, by Real Madrid. This has raised questions about Neymar’s intentions to finish his 5-year contract with the French giants.
However, with Manchester United interested, where does this place Alexis Sanchez? The Chilean just arrived on a 3-year-contract and plays in the exact same position as Neymar. In no circumstance, will he agree to a less influential role in the team or agree to give up his position on the left wing.
