Guardiola and Manchester City, who are on the verge of securing a Premier League title, have had to face a horror week. After being drawn to Liverpool in the Champions League quarters, the Citizens were expected to see them off but what Liverpool did on a special night at Anfield will have surely brought them down a notch or two.
Liverpool dismantled City in the first half hour of the game and took a 3-0 lead and later went on to secure a comfortable first-leg win. After such a poor performance City was expected to come hard at their derby rivals Manchester United but they overthrew a 2-0 lead and went on to lose the game 3-2. In the second leg of their Champions League clash against Liverpool, they again succumbed to a defeat by 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, which assured that they were no more a challenger for a place in the top four.
These recent results have certainly put some sheen off City and Guardiola’s season but one needs to remember that in the toughest league in the world they have pretty much managed to win it on a canter. No team was able to come close to them as they have been leading the Premier League race for months. They also secured the Carabao Cup beating Arsenal in the finals.
On the back of a such a good overall season, the Manchester City boards have offered Guardiola an extension to his contract. His initial contract was up until 2019 but he is poised to sign another year extension which will keep him at Manchester until 2020. He is also set to become one of the world’s best-paid manager as he will be reportedly earning £20million-a-year. The report also says that the deal and the terms of the contract were agreed last month when Guardiola met owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarek in Abu Dhabi last month.
There is no surprise that City have offered a contract extension to Guardiola. Guardiola had a poor season according to his standards last year but this year he has managed to make this City team into a well-oiled machine who churn out great performances week in week out. They were once touted to win the quadruple but Guardiola always downplayed it.

They are on course to secure a double at least and that is still a resounding success for the manager and the team. City has been playing some of the best football in the country and for that credit should go to Guardiola. He has even managed to improve quite a few players and with him being committed till 2020, he can take this team to the next level and can make them into world beaters.
