Arsenal have reportedly resumed negotiations with Aaron Ramsey for a contract extension beyond the summer of 2019. This is particularly a matter of interest for the Arsenal faithful after witnessing the long-drawn battle between the club and Mesut Ozil earlier in the season.
The German did end up agreeing to a £350,000-a-week extension after Alexis Sanchez departed for Manchester United but the uncertainty of his future created a lot of problems among the club ranks.
Sanchez was the first one to raise those questions but his intentions were more oriented towards earning trophies. He had placed a similar demand towards the Arsenal ownership but it was the Red Devils who ended up meeting them.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan arrived at the Emirates on a swap deal for the Chilean and has carved a huge chunk of Arsenal’s wage bill as well. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also one of the highest earners in the North London side ever since he made the switch from Borussia Dortmund for a £60m transfer fee.
This will always spark questions of a players worth within a club and a long-serving footballer like Ramsey deserves to ask such questions. 10 years, 319 appearances, 56 goals and 53 assists later, how much do you think he is worth to Arsenal?
If you ask me, it is quite a lot. The Welshman brings a unique skill set to the table, not to mention the years of experience in England’s top flight.
He was on the scoresheet again last Thursday against CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Europa League Quarter Final first leg. The 27-year-old came within touching distance of his second career hattrick, just a month after scoring his first against Everton.
Yes, his injury history is a bit concerning but that does not discount his impact when on the pitch. Wenger has fielded him in almost every position in the final third this season and Ramsey has delivered time and time again.
The quick flicks, the penetrating through balls and the mind-boggling finishes are what separates the midfielder from the herd. Ramsey is one of those magical components who can dazzle you every night with just a few seconds on the ball.
He can play behind the striker as well as from deep positions. If required he can fill the space on the wings as well given his craftiness with the ball.

Both he and Jack Wilshere deserve one of those untouchable deals that Barcelona have handed out to Sergi Roberto and Gerard Pique with the obscene release clauses. It is time for Wenger and the club to step up and show some loyalty towards some of the best players in the team.
