Leicester City’s good journey in the English Premier League took a halt today when they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United. The Foxes have been a rejuvenated side under Claude Puel this season and have been flirting in and around the 7th spot in the table, just behind the top six.
They however, fell short today and will be disappointed with their defeat. They were unfairly disallowed a penalty in the first half but otherwise failed to match up to Newcastle’s tenacity and physical game throughout the 90 minutes.
They fell behind to two goals at home and never quite managed to come back. They did grab a late goal but eventually went on to lose. It was a soft defeat by many measures and they will have to brush it off quickly now.
Here is how the players performed on the night.
Kasper Schmeichel: 5.5
Not a good day for him. First goal came in owing to a deflected strike and was caught out of position for the next one. He had a decent outing otherwise.
Danny Simpson: 5.5
An average outing and never really got into the game. Taken off in the second half.
Wes Morgan: 4
The captain was guilty of playing in Perez for the second goal. He should have been smarter in dealing with the ball but never really got it under control letting Perez get in for the second goal.
Harry Maguire: 6.5
The only Leicester City player who was ready to fight the physical battle for the Foxes and had a decent outing.
Ben Chilwell: 6.5
Had a good outing with the ball and the energy up and down. Unlucky to have been hit by a cruel deflection for the Newcastle goal.
Vicente Iborra: 5.5
A decent first half but will be sad he got injured leaving him out for a long time. His hamstring problem looks serious.
Adrien Silva: 6.5
Took over the midfield battle and was excellent throughout. Had a good impact in an otherwise slow Leicester side.
Fousseni Diabete: 5
Still needs to put in a lot of effort to be an effective ball player but looks physically impressive interms of speed and agility.
Riyad Mahrez: 7
Not allowed the penalty and will be upset by that.
Marc Albrighton: 6
Moved to a full back to replace Simpson and was excellent with his deliveries again.
Jamie Vardy: 6.5
A goal on the night but nothing else worth mentioning.
Shinji Okazaki: 5
Pulled through a bundle of energy once he came on
Demarai Gray: N/A
Hamza Choudhary: 5.5
The young kid got a rare chance. He was not bad but he can improve leaps and bounds with regular game time.
