Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to bring in Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic. The 19-year-old defender has been in prime form for the Hoops this season. Ajer signed for the club back in 2016 for a meagre 500,000 from Start.
Since then he has gone on to become a star player at Celtic. He can play both as a centre back and a holding midfielder. His versatility means that he is likely to be an asset to any club he plays for. His talent to play in multiple positions has helped Brendan Rodger’s men this season on several occasions.
It is believed now that Celtic are ready to receive a big pay for him with Ajer being targeted by multiple clubs. He is believed to be on the radar of Borussia Dortmund who are actively chasing him. The prospect of playing in Germany for a club as big as Dortmund is surely going to appeal to the 19-year-old kid. Germany is after all the place where the best technical training is given to kids who come to learn football. Take a look at Andreas Christensen for example.
The Danish star was out on loan in Germany for two years where he developed significantly before returning to Chelsea last year. Now he has become a star player at Stamford Bridge removing David Luiz from the line-up.
Ajer however, has a decision to make with another club interested in him. It is none other than North London club Tottenham Hotspur. The rivals of Arsenal, Spurs are now a significantly improved team and a major powerhouse in Europe. They are the only team to have gone unbeaten against Real Madrid in the Champions League this season.
It is believed they are interested in bringing in the Celtic star to North London. They already have stars like Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier in the team to play as a centre-back. However, the situation with Alderweireld is tricky with the Belgian set to leave the club. Moreover, with Vertonghen getting older by the day, Ajer could be a star for the future.
Also in midfield, they have an ageing Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama is yet to settle in. With young Harry Winks by his side, Ajer could prove to be a pivotal star for the future at Spurs.
It all now depends on where he chooses to go and fans at Spurs will be hoping they manage to land the talented teenager.
