Charlie Austin of Southampton is reportedly set to be offered a way out of the club by Leicester City. The Foxes are keen on bringing in the Saints’ top scorer. Austin first impressed with Queens Park Rangers before becoming the main man for Southampton as well. Despite his lengthy injury lay-off, he is their current top scorer and is the main forward to be called upon when fit.
As for Leicester, the Foxes are currently well set in attack with Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki, Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa as their striking options with the last two out on loan for now. So it would be a difficult nut for Austin to crack if he does make a move. Also, it must be noted that it is never simple for a striker to create an impression at a new club.
The story of football at the professional level requires players who are not only with good physical abilities like quick feet but also in possession of a sharp mind. As the intensity of the game goes higher, physical prowess and technical skills are overtaken by the ability of a footballer to be mentally agile. The professional game is served at the maximum level and every footballer is more or less showered with plenty of quantities of technical prowess and ball skills. The good players stand out from the average ones on just one tiny basis, the utilization of their brain.
Football is always decided in a fraction of a second and the footballers are judged by the few touches they have on the ball. The game gets even tougher for the forward players and custodians who unlike the midfielders see much lesser of the ball but the importance of their lesser time is way more than the players in the midfield.
For a striker, the match is more in the state of mind rather than anything else. A good number nine is hardly short on confidence. His mental tenacity to fight has to be at peak every time he steps out on the field whether it is once in a blue moon or for the full ninety minutes of the match.
Hence it is difficult for strikers asked to make an impact from the bench as scoring chances are harder to come by and the risks are way more with the match coming to an end. Almost all stories of every back up forward is the one which went wrong and his professional career is incorrectly judged. Hence, Austin must be aware of the dangers if he does choose to join Leicester City.
