Chelsea have reportedly set their price for Eden Hazard. The Blues want in excess of £100million for any party involved in pursuing Hazard. The Belgian captain has been linked for long with a move to Real Madrid. It is now being reported that Real Madrid may be considering once again their move for Hazard.
The reason for this is two-fold. First and foremost is the fact that Hazard has been playing below par in the last month or so. He went missing for Chelsea’s biggest clash in the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona. He also has not scored or set up a goal in his last 5 matches. This drop in form has alerted Madrid to the dangers of signing Hazard. The Belgian was known to have this “going missing” attribute ever since he joined the Blues. He, however, had banished this evil practice this season until recently.
The second reason is the fee Chelsea are going to charge Real Madrid in the summer. The current transfer window has been stocked up with player transfers happening for ridiculous wages. Paul Pogba, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho are all in the bracket of the current generation of superstars who have undergone massive transfers. Hazard is surely just as talented as any of them and is likely to go for a similar price.
Moreover, Chelsea as a club have a habit of making excellent deals while selling their players. They sold David Luiz to PSG for a world-record fee for a defender and have sold out of favour players like Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and Oscar for incredulous wages. This would mean that the Blues hierarchy would be more than happy to play hardball for their star man Hazard, especially with the player still having more than a year left on his contract.
Hazard on his day can be the most devastating player on the pitch. The Belgian possesses all the quality to play from the wings or through the middle as a number 10. His sleek style of play allows him to run at defenders and move past them with absolute ease. His low centre of gravity coupled with his excellent shoulder strength allows him to swerve and dodge tackles making him a nightmare for defenders.
At Real Madrid, he could be a handful if he were to line up next to Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo in the final third. The decision is for Zidane to take but Hazard’s playing style should mean that Madrid would be wise to make a move for him this summer despite the heavy money he would cost.
