Everton are close to signing Boca Juniors defender Frank Fabra this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees have sealed a move for the Colombian left-back ahead of the summer transfer window. Some reports coming out of South America claims that the Blues of Merseyside has successfully made a swoop for the 27-year-old full-back after the player’s representatives arrived in England last week. It is also being reported that talks are currently at an ‘advanced’ between the club and the player.
It is believed that the fee could be in the region of £5m for the South American ace, who has put in some solid displays for Boca Juniors during the course of this campaign. He is contracted with the Argentine club until the summer of 2019. Fabra has made 20 appearances for Boca Juniors this season, scoring two goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions. He also has 17 international caps and one goal to his name for the Colombian national team.
The Colombian midfield enforcer is expected to feature for his national side in the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off later this year. Hence, it indicates that a transfer needs to go through immediately after the end of the current campaign.
The Merseyside club are currently in the 9th position in the Premier League rankings with a tally of 40 points after Gameweek 32. They are still in with a chance of securing a top 7 finish in the league but are six points behind 7th placed Burnley going into the business end of the season.
The addition of Fabra will undoubtedly bolster Allardyce’s defensive options ahead of the new season as they look to improve on their league position next term. Everton have the likes of Leighton Baines and Cuco Martina vying for the left-back position in Allardyce’s first-team. The potential signing for Fabra will definitely add more competition for places in the Toffees squad and help them in their quest to close the gap between themselves and their local rivals Liverpool in the coming years.
It is understood that Fabra will be a perfect back-up for Baines, who is in the twilight of his career. At 27, the Colombian international still has his peak years ahead of him which the Merseysiders could capitalise on in the new few seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Fabra and whether he ends up making a move to Goodison Park in the near future.
