West Ham United are looking to secure the services of Hartlepool United left-back Harrison Webster next summer. According to recent reports, the Hammers are preparing to make a swoop for the teenage talent after he put in some impressive performances for the Durham-based side’s youth teams during the course of this campaign.
The 15-year-old is on the brink of breaking into Matthew Bates’ first-team and has really caught the eyes with his performances in the National League. At the mere age of 15, Webster is being monitored by a whole host of clubs which include Wolves, Leicester City and West Ham United. However, it is believed that the Wolves are currently leading the chase for his signature.
The Hammers has a great reputation for developing young players and promoting them into their first-team as evidenced by the long and successful careers of Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Joe Cole and many other well-known names in football. Hence, the East London club will be a perfect fit for Webster if he is looking for a platform to grow and develop his game in the coming years.
West Ham currently find themselves in the 14th position in the Premier League standings at the back of an impressive 3-0 win versus Southampton in the last gameweek. However, they are still not completely out of relegation danger with just 5 points separating them from 18th placed Saints going into the final 7 matches of the campaign.
The addition of Webster will undoubtedly bolster David Moyes’ defensive options in the future but for now, he needs time to develop and grow as a defender in West Ham’s famous academy. The 15-year-old has the potential to follow in the footsteps of some of the greats of the game so a switch to the London Stadium might turn out to be a logical move for the youngster.

The Hammers academy and Under 23 side manager Terry Westley could be the ideal man to get the best out of Webster as he is the person responsible for the recent emergence of players such as Declan Rice, Domingos Quina and Reece Oxford. At 15, Webster still has a lot of time to improve his game which can help him in his quest to become a future Premier League star. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Webster and whether the Hammers are able to fend off stiff competition in pursuit of his signature.
