Everton are looking to secure the services of ADO Den Haag defender Wilfried Kanon next summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are set to battle it out with Villarreal, Real Betis and Eibar in pursuit of the Ivory Coast international’s signature. It is understood that Everton boss Sam Allardyce is eager to recruit a new centre-back this summer and the 24-year-old Eredivisie midfielder is high on his summer shortlist.
The Toffees are preparing for a summer overhaul of their squad and will be on the lookout for a new defender in the off-season. Kanon has put in some solid displays for ADO Den Haag during the course of this campaign. Some sources are claiming that he could be available for a fee as little as £2m this summer which has alerted a whole host of clubs including the Merseysiders who are in pursuit of his signature.
Kanon has featured in 71 matches for the Alfons Groenendijk’s side since making a switch from Romanian side Corona Brasov in the summer of 2013. At 24, he still has his peak years ahead of him which the Merseyside outfit could look to utilise in the coming years.
The Blues of Merseyside are currently occupying the 9th position in the Premier League table with a tally of 40 points in 32 matches. They are six points behind 7th placed Burnley, having played a game more, going into the business end of the season.
The potential signing of Kanon will undoubtedly bolster Sam Allardyce’s defensive options going into the new campaign. The Toffees have the likes of Mason Holgate, Ashley Williams, Eliaquim Mangala, Ramiro Funes Mori, Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane who are vying for a place in the Everton starting eleven. The addition of Kanon will definitely add more competition for places in the Allardyce’s squad as they look to compete on all fronts in the next campaign.
