According to reports, Arsenal is keen on landing 21-year-old young Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. Leicester City bought Ndidi from the Belgium Club Genk for £17 million.Ndidi has managed to make 52 appearances for the Foxes since he arrived in England in December 2016.
The Gunners aren’t the only one who are keen on having the young Leicester midfielder, as even Liverpool and Manchester United are lining up for the young Nigerian’s signature. His good performances, since he joined the Foxes, has brought a lot of attention to him but as of now, it’s being reported that Arsenal is leading the race to sign the young Nigerian.
Ndidi though, last month, didn’t pay too much attention to these reports. When asked about his big-money move in the summer, he claimed that he doesn’t think too much about his future as he believes that if he keeps doing his ‘thing’ his move to a bigger club will take care of itself.
Ndidi could be a good addition to the Arsenal midfield, which seems fragile at the moment. Both Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere are injury prone and Granit Xhaka hasn’t had the best of time at the Emirates. Leicester signed Ndidi who were looking to replace Ngolo Kante and he has done well when given the opportunity. Like Kante, Ndidi is known for his defensive work rate and agility. But he is considered to be more attacking in nature as he moves the ball well and has a good passing range.
Ndidi is considered to be quite versatile as he has been playing in various roles in midfield throughout his career but Leicester has predominantly used him in the role where he breaks down the opposition attack through his interceptions and tackles. He has the attacking ability and can be adventurous going forward as he has scored some absolute screamers in the premier league but Leicester as a team needs him to do his defensive duties first.
At Arsenal, he can have that freedom to show his attacking prowess. Arsenal is in need of someone who can control the tempo of the game and keep the team ticking forward. The question is whether Ndidi will adjust to life at Arsenal soon enough and bring a quick relief to Arsenal’s midfield issues or whether he will be one for the future as Arsenal are currently in need of a commanding midfielder. With the possibility of Jack Wilshere moving out of the Emirates Stadium in the summer, the opportunity might just be tailor-made for the Nigerian international to make a mark at the North London club in the near future.
