Liverpool will play hosts to Manchester City on Wednesday night at the back of a comeback win versus Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend. The Reds are in terrific form and have won back to back league matches which will give them immense confidence ahead of this crunch clash against City. Jurgen Klopp’s side handed the Citizens their first domestic loss earlier this season when they secured a thrilling 4-3 victory at Anfield. The German will hope that his players can repeat that performance in midweek and give themselves a good chance of qualification.
The recent history of the fixture makes a grim reading for the Manchester outfit as they have lost three of their last five encounters with Liverpool. Klopp is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation and will be sweating on the fitness of Emre Can, who is in a race against time to be fit for this match. However, the Reds will be without the services of Joe Gomez and Adam Lallana, who are both sidelined due to injuries.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Loris Karius is expected to start in goal for Liverpool while Simon Mignolet settles for a place on the bench. The German shot-stopper might be shielded by a backline of Dejan Lovren and Virgil Van Dijk in central defence while Andrew Robertson starts in the left-back position and Trent Alexander-Arnold takes his place on the right-hand side of the backline.
Klopp will be hoping that his defenders can keep it tight at the back versus the Citizens in midweek so that they have a good chance of qualification ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
Midfield
The trio of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emre Can could be deployed at the centre of the park and the performance of these players will be a decisive factor if Liverpool are to break down the Citizens defence at Anfield.
Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson could be available on the bench for this clash versus Pep Guardiola’s side.
Attack
The front three would consist of Roberto Firmino spearheading the Reds attack, Sadio Mane looking to use his pace on the right side while Mohamed Salah tries to cause some damage on the left flank. Danny Ings could be available for a place on the bench and might come on during the match if required.
The form of Salah has been sensational, to say the least, which is why he will once again be expected to produce the goods on Wednesday night.
