Manchester United are plotting a blockbuster move to bring back their former star Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are ready to make a move for the Real Madrid forward when the transfer window opens in the summer. It is believed that Jose Mourinho is ready to break the bank in pursuit of the Portuguese superstar, who is asking for a hefty pay rise at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to try and take his weekly earnings at the same level as his Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.
However, the Galacticos president Florentino Perez has refused to budge from his valuation of the player. Some sources are now claiming that the Red Devils are prepared to offer Cristiano Ronaldo a mammoth €30m-a-year (£26m) in their efforts to bring him back to the Premier League. It is also being suggested that United’s chief sponsors Chevrolet will help them fund the move by paying a big chunk of the fee in exchange for advertisement. The same report also proposes that Adidas will pay a percentage of the fee as well to try and improve shirt sales.
Cristiano Ronaldo has featured in 35 matches for Los Blancos this season, scoring 37 goals and keeping six clean sheets in all competitions. Only time will tell whether United are successful in pursuit of the 33-year-old’s signature this summer.
The Red Devils are currently sitting in the second position in the Premier League table with a tally of 65 points in 30 league matches. In any other season, Jose Mourinho’s team would be well in contention of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall behind in the race for the league title.
The Citizens of Manchester are leading the Premier League by a staggering 16 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to play catch up with their ‘noisy neighbours’. The addition of Ronaldo will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s attacking options for the next few years and help them bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City in the coming years.

At 33, he still has a few years left in him to play at the top level which United could look to capitalise on in the next few campaigns. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Ronaldo and whether he ends up making a return to Old Trafford in the near future.
