Real Madrid midfielder Isco has reportedly held talks with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola over the possibility of a switch to the Etihad Stadium in the summer. According to recent reports, the Galacticos star, who scored a hattrick for the Spanish national team in their 6-1 victory over Argentina on Tuesday, has been promised that he will be an integral player under Guardiola and double his current salary if he agrees to a switch to Manchester this summer.
However, the Citizens will face stiff competition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal in pursuit of the Spaniard’s signature. Isco has featured in a total of 40 matches for Los Blancos this season in all competitions but only has 18 La Liga starts to his name. He began the campaign in terrific form for the reigning European champions but his form has faded in recent weeks.
The Spanish playmaker has found the back of the net 7 times while creating 7 assists across all competitions for the Galacticos during the course of this season. It is believed that City considers him to be a long-term replacement for David Silva and could be lining up a move for his signature this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s team are currently leading the Premier League standings with a tally of 81 points in 30 league matches. They are firmly in the driver’s seat as they look to secure another league title at the top tier of English football with a whopping 16 point lead over their crosstown rivals Manchester United.
The Citizens are still participating in two different competitions and have already bagged the Carabao Cup last month. They have also progressed to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League having secured a 5-2 aggregate victory over FC Basel earlier this month. The Citizens will now clash heads with Liverpool over two legs for a place in the semi-finals of Europe’s premier cup competition.
The potential signing of Isco will undoubtedly bolster Pep Guardiola’s attacking options ahead of the new season as they look to maintain their dominance in both domestic and European football. The Premier League champions-elect already have the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, İlkay Gündoğan and Yaya Toure vying for a place in Guardiola’s first-team. The potential signing of Isco will definitely add more competition for places in the Citizens squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Isco and whether he ends up making a switch to the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
