Napoli midfielder Jorginho has recently disclosed that he would jump at a chance to join Manchester City, amidst reports linking him with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United this summer. According to recent reports, the Italian international has welcomed a transfer to the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season to play under Pep Guardiola which will come as a big boost for the Citizens.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been a key member of Maurizio Sarri’s side this season but with the impending arrival of Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira at Naples, Jorginho might be free to leave the Serie A giants at the end of the campaign. He has put in some sensational performances for Napoli during the course of this season which has alerted some of the Premier League heavyweights which include Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. However, he has recently revealed in an interview that he favours a move to Manchester City and was quoted to have said, ‘The recognition and praise from Guardiola, a coach so important to world football, is spectacular. In England, there are teams that play football that I like.
‘If any of these clubs were interested, I could fit in well and the club could adapt to the way I play, which is not so common. ‘Two months left until the end of the season, I am very focused, I do not want to waste energy, I want to try enter the history of Napoli and conquer this Scudetto.’
The Blues of Manchester are currently ahead in the Premier League standings with a points tally of 81 points in 30 league games. Pep Guardiola’s side are still in with a chance to win two different competitions and have already managed to bag the Carabao Cup last month.
The addition of Jorginho will undoubtedly bolster Pep Guardiola’s midfield options going into the new campaign as they look to maintain their dominance in both domestic and European football. The Italian has featured in 32 matches for Napoli this season, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions. City already have the likes of Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, İlkay Gündoğan and Yaya Toure vying for a place in Guardiola’s first-team.
The potential signing of Jorginho will definitely add more competition for places in the Manchester City squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Jorginho and whether he ends up moving to the Etihad Stadium in the near future.
