Though they have very little chance of winning any silverware this season, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are in a decent position to qualify for the Champions League next season and the manager is already desperate to add some quality to the first team, to try and compete with the best next season.
The Reds have been effective in the transfer market recently as Klopp is yet to sign a player that can be termed a ‘real flop’. So it does not come as a surprise that the Liverpool fans are excited with most names linked with a move to Anfield recently and one such name now doing the rounds is James Maddison.
Arguably one of the most exciting midfielders in the Championship at the moment, Maddison has been in terrific form for the Canaries and though might not be able to take them to the top flight this season, is all set to play in the Premier League. He has shown great maturity recently and this has seen a number of English clubs show interest in his signature for the summer.
The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Manchester City are extensively linked with a move for Maddison and Norwich City are reportedly ready to let him leave at the right price. It is understood that the Championship outfit value Maddison at around £25m, which should not be a problem for the Reds. So should they go all in for the English midfielder?
A product of the Coventry City academy, the 21-year old, who has three appearances for the English U21 side, is the first choice midfielder for Daniel Farke, who has used him in a no.10 role extensively. Maddison has not let his manager down and has picked up 13 goals and seven assists in 34 Championship starts.
A versatile midfielder, who can not only dribble past opponents but can also set up his teammates on goal, the Norwich City man is a dead-ball specialist and can test the keeper from long range. He is strong in hold up play and his positioning allows him to be a goal scoring threat constantly and though he has to work on the defensive side of his game, at just 21, he stands as one of the most attractive players in England at the moment.
The Reds are looking to add numbers to their midfield, as they are all set to lose Emre Can this summer. They will welcome Naby Keita but will need depth in the squad to compete on all fronts and Maddison is as good an option as any for Klopp.
He fits into Liverpool’s style of play well and will be a huge coup for the Reds.
