As per one of the latest reports by Fussball Transfers, Leeds United are perceived to be monitoring Hannover 96 midfielder, Marvin Bakalorz. Bakalorz was linked with the Championship outfit in 2016 but his move to the Elland Road didn’t materialize. Galatasaray and Everton were keen to lure him to their ranks in the January transfer window but their interest was knocked off by the German Bundesliga side.
Leeds United started their season under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen and were quite decent and productive in the early stages. The element of fluidity was certainly evident in their endeavours. However, they started to wane as the season progressed, owing to which Christiansen was sacked last month. Besides, Paul Heckingbottom’s appointment has flattered to deceive.
The hopes for promotion to the Premier League is pretty much done and dusted for the Whites as they are placed at the 14th spot in the Championship table with merely 50 points to their name from 38 games. They are as many as 12 points behind the nearest play-offs spot and thus, there is no denying that Heckingbottom has some shrewd moves to make in the summer to enhance his side’s chances of promotion next season.
Bakalorz is a familiar face in German football and has plenty of experience under his belt. He is predominantly a central midfielder but is capable enough to ply his trade as a central attacking midfielder as well as a central defensive midfielder. He is a decent reader of the game, is good in the air and is physically quite strong to deal with opposition’s attacking endeavours.
However, the rumour of the 28-year-old’s move to Heckingbottom’s arsenal is expected to divide opinion amongst the fans. The Peacocks have more than the required of midfielders in their stock, as Eunan O’Kane, Kalvin Phillips, Adam Forshaw and Ronaldo Vieira are already competing for getting the green light to feature in Heckingbottom’s starting line-up. Besides, Mateusz Klich is out on loan and should be aiming to make his presence felt next season.
The Yorkshire based club has many issues to deal with before the start of the next season but the central midfield slot seems to be already overcrowded. Further, Bakalorz isn’t familiar with English football and given the animosity that it offers, he might take time to adjust. Besides, he wouldn’t come for cheap and thus, Heckingbottom needs to be asses the German properly before going out for him.
