Atletico Madrid are looking to secure the services of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette in the summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners forward is attracting interest from the La Liga giants ahead of the summer transfer window. Diego Simeone’s side are reportedly planning to make a swoop for the French ace at the end of the current season as they look to replace Antoine Griezmann, who is being heavily touted to make a switch to Barcelona this summer.
Some sources have recently claimed that the Madrid-based club are already preparing for life without Griezmann and will be on the lookout for a new striker this summer. It is believed that Lacazette fits the bill perfectly so a move to the Spanish capital looks set to be on the cards. The Frenchman is reported to be Los Rojiblancos’ number 1 choice to replace Griezmann.
The 26-year-old has featured in 29 matches for Arsenal this season, scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions. He has found life hard in North London and has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang in January. Lacazette could be open for a summer move to the Wanda Metropolitano in search of regular game time in the following campaign.
The Gunners are in dire need of some new players this summer in order to strengthen their squad and bridge the gap between themselves and the top 4 of the top-flight in the years to come. However, retaining some of their top talents should also remain a priority for Wenger’s side after the North Londoners lost the services of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United during the January transfer window.
The potential departure of Lacazette this summer will undoubtedly deplete the Arsenal squad significantly ahead of the new campaign but if the North Londoners can bring in a suitable replacement, then parting ways with the French striker could be beneficial for all parties. Lacazette is highly versatile and can play in a number of different positions across the frontline. He primarily plays as a centre-forward but can also be deployed on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for Diego Simeone’s Athletico Madrid team.
