Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj is closing in on penning a new deal with the Serie A outfit amidst interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. According to recent reports, the Albania international is eager to extend his stay at Naples and is prepared to reject a move to the Premier League in the process.
The 24-year-old has put in some sensational displays in the Serie A this season which has alerted some of Europe’s top clubs which includes the Red Devils. Some sources are now claiming that the defender is close to penning a new deal soon which will hopefully end speculation regarding his future. It is understood that the Naples-based club and the player are currently finalising terms and are discussing a release clause for potential overseas buyers, a figure which is expected to be in the region of £45m. Once the terms are finalised, Hysaj will sign a new, long-term deal with the club.
The Albania international has featured in 38 matches for Napoli this season and has one assist to his name in all competitions. With United set to miss out on his signature, let’s take a look at three alternative options for the Red Devils to consider in the off-season.
Bruno Peres
The 28-year-old AS Roma right-back has been solid at the back for AS Roma this season. The Brazilian defender has featured in 19 matches for the Italian side this term across all competitions so far. He would be the perfect second-fiddle to Antonio Valencia and has the ability to break into their first-team in the near future if the Red Devils opted to bring him to Old Trafford in the near future.
Seamus Coleman
The Everton defender has not featured regularly for the Toffees this season after spending a long time on the sidelines due to an injury. However, he is slowly returning to full fitness and United could look to secure his services in the near future and take a chance on the Republic of Ireland international. Coleman has a wealth of experience in the Premier League, having made 247 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 24 goals and making 24 assists during his career in Merseyside.
Mario Gaspar
The Villarreal CF right-back has been in fine form this season and has made 30 appearances for the La Liga club, scoring a goal and providing an assist in all competitions. He could be an ideal asset under Mourinho at Old Trafford if given a chance to prove himself in English football.
