Manchester United have secured the services of Lech Poznan defender Lukasz Bejger. According to recent reports, the Red Devils have beaten their rivals, Manchester City in pursuit of the Polish youngster’s signature. It is believed that Jose Mourinho’s side has won the chase for the Poland U16 skipper to bolster their academy ahead of the new campaign.
Bejger is highly rated by clubs all across Europe and some sources have recently claimed that United have agreed to sign the 16-year-old defender after he impressed during a trial with the club in August last year. It is understood that a deal was finalised in January and the Red Devils are now free to include him in their academy intake for next season.
The Polish wonderkid came through the youth ranks of Lech Poznan and made his youth debut for his national team in their match versus Scotland in September last year. Bejger is highly versatile and primarily operates as a centre-back but can also play in the right-back position which makes him a perfect fit for Jose Mourinho’s side. The Lech Poznan starlet will hope to become United’s first outfield Polish player if he can successfully break into their first-team in the coming years.
In any other season, Jose Mourinho’s team would be in with a chance of winning the league but the trailblazing form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them fall off the pace in the chase for the league title.
Manchester City are ahead in the Premier League by a massive 16 points with the Red Devils and are hoping to catch up with their ‘noisy neighbours’. The addition of Bejger will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options in a few years time but for now, it seems like he has to develop his game at the youth level to try and break into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans. The Polish youngster has already shown a lot of promise in his youth career which justifies why United brought him to English football and now, it will be up to the player to develop in the club’s youth squad in the coming years.
At 16, he has immense potential and could turn out to be a Premier League veteran if given the chance to showcase his talents in a nurturing environment. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Bejger and whether his time at Old Trafford turns out to be a success.
