There has been no progress made with regards to West Ham United keeper Adrian’s contract at the East London club. According to recent reports, talks between the player and the club have come to a standstill with the summer transfer window looming on the horizon.
The Spanish shot-stopper has just two years left to run on his current contract with the club after the Hammers activated a clause in his contract to ensure his immediate future. It is believed that David Moyes’ side are eager to tie him up on a new, long-term deal following some of his impressive displays during the course of this season.
However, some sources have recently claimed that there has been no progress in the club’s revised contract offer for the Spaniard which has thrown his future in doubt at East London. Adrian signed for West Ham United on a free summer from Real Betis in the summer of 2013. The 31-year-old has put in some solid performances in goal for the Hammers after Joe Hart failed to impress in the early parts of the campaign.
Adrian has made 18 appearances for West Ham this season, conceding 26 goals while keeping 6 clean sheets in all competitions. Only time will tell whether he ends up extending his stay at the London Stadium beyond the summer of 2019.
West Ham are currently sitting in the 17th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 30 points in 30 league matches. David Moyes’ team still finds themselves just two points above the drop zone and are in real danger of suffering the agony of being relegated to the second tier at the end of this season. They are in dire need to bring in some reinforcements during the summer transfer period in their effort to push on and improve their league displays in the next campaign.
However, retaining some of their top players could also help the club achieve its ambitions in the coming years. Adrian has been one of the club’s top performers this season and at 31, the Spaniard still has a few years left in him to play at the top level which Moyes could look to utilise in the coming years. If West Ham are able to successfully extend his contract, it would also help the Hammers save some of their resources to strengthen other areas of their squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Adrian and whether he ends up extending his stay at East London in the near future.
