RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has recently addressed his future and has ruled out a move in the summer. According to recent reports, the German international has said that his club won’t be willing to sell him this summer, amidst speculation linking him with a switch to Liverpool.
It is believed that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Werner’s talents and the Reds were preparing a big-money move to bring him to Anfield. Some sources have also claimed that Klopp has enquired about his availability and got in touch with the player’s agent Karlheinz Forster about a potential move in the summer. However, the 22-year-old forward, whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022, has ruled out a move with RB Leipzig Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick reluctant to part ways with him in the near future.
In a recent interview, Werner addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “I did not want to clarify anything [regarding my future], just repeat what our sporting director Ralf Rangnick has always said, that he would not let me go – even if I wanted to – in the summer anyway.
“Ralph Rangnick says to me that I will stay, no matter what happens – as will those around me.”
Werner has featured in 37 matches for RB Leipzig this season, scoring 18 goals while providing 6 assists in all competitions. With the German set to stay in the Bundesliga for the immediate future, let’s take a look at three potential alternatives for Jurgen Klopp to consider in the off-season.
Nabil Fekir
The French attacker has been in a rich vein of form for Olympique Lyon this season. He has developed himself into a prolific goal-scorer and at 24, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Klopp’s side could look to utilise in the coming years. Fekir has made 34 appearances for Lyon this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 4 assists in all competitions.
Ciro Immobile
The 28-year-old Italian ace has been lighting up the Serie A with his impressive performances for Lazio this term. He has caught the eye with some dazzling displays so far during the course of this campaign which has seen him score 34 goals and provide 10 assists in 38 matches for Lazio in all competitions. Immobile can be considered as one of the best strikers in world football and if given the opportunity, he can fulfil his ambitions at Anfield.
Borja Mayoral
The Spanish forward has put in some eye-catching displays for Real Madrid this season. He has featured in 20 matches for the La Liga giants this term, scoring 5 goals while creating 2 assists in all competitions. At 20, the Spaniard has a lot of time to develop his game and become a future star which Liverpool could look to capitalise on in the coming years.
