Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed that he dreams of playing for Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window. According to recent reports, the French midfielder has stated his desire to play for the Reds which has given rise to more speculation surrounding his future at Vicarage Road.
The 25-year-old has repeatedly addressed the media with recent reports linking him with a move to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. It looks increasingly likely that he will depart the Hertfordshire club at the end of the current campaign. Doucoure has put in some eye-catching displays for the Hornets during the course of this season which has alerted the Premier League’s big boys and now, a potential move out of Vicarage Road looks set to be on the cards.
In a recent interview, Doucoure was quoted to have said, “Liverpool is a club that needs no introduction,”
“I was impatient to play at Anfield, I wanted to feel the atmosphere.
“For me, it would be a dream to play for a club like this.”
The Frenchman has featured in 32 matches for the Hornets this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions. He is currently leading the club’s goal-scoring charts and has developed into a top quality midfielder during the course of this campaign. Only time will tell whether the Reds comply with his wishes and make a move for him in the summer.
The Reds are currently occupying the 3rd position in the Premier League standings after their impressive 5-0 victory over Javi Gracia’s side, a few weeks ago.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s team are a massive 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City going into the final stretch of the season, which indicates that they need to bring in a few new faces in the summer to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years.
The addition of Doucoure will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options as they look to mount a realistic title challenge next season. The Reds already have the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vying for a place in Liverpool’s starting eleven so the potential arrival of Doucoure will definitely add more competition for places at Anfield.
Doucoure is highly versatile and can operate as a holding midfielder or in a more advanced role in central midfield which makes him a perfect fit for the Reds. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Doucoure and whether he ends up making his ‘dream’ move to Anfield in the near future.
