Italian news outlet, Forza Italia claims that Juventus might have shifted their attention from Liverpool’s Emre Can towards Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey. Both the players’ contract demands have not been met by their respective clubs yet and speculation of a club switch has sparked off from all corners of Europe.
Can has reportedly asked the Merseyside club for a yearly €12m package for the extended contract. His current one is set to end after this season. Ramsey, on the other hand, will be entering the last year of his deal with Arsenal after this season and Arsene Wenger has been cautioned over the woeful possibilities that might have.`
The Frenchman had to learn a valuable lesson from his drawn-out contract battle with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil earlier in the season and a like-wise repetition with one of the club’s longest-serving players is not warranted.
Ramsey might not be as big a names as Ozil in world football but he is a player of high stature in the Gunners club ranks. The Wales international has been with the side ever since the summer of 2008 and has racked up 322 appearances for the club so far managing 55 goals and 55 assists.
He is adept in the box-to-box role and really came into the limelight in the 2013/14 season. He earned the Arsenal Player Of The Season honour and was nominated for PFA Young Player Of The Year award as well.
Ramsey scored his first club hattrick against Everton earlier this the season and showcased his remarkable scoring ability on his return from injury. He and Jack Wilshere are the competing duo for a place in the starting lineup with the latter also tied up in an ugly contract battle.
With both the player’s careers in an Arsenal jersey hanging in the balance, several clubs in Europe are looking to benefit from the situation.
Juventus are tied to plenty of midfield names this season mostly due to their ageing players in the heart of the park. Both Sami Khedira and Marchisio are concerned with their own fitness and Blaise Matuidi is better suited to the defensive midfield role.
Ever since they lost Paul Pogba to Manchester United, the Serie A outfit has struggled to replicate that same level of influence in midfield. Ramsey is an able body who has a lot of top-flight experience and is perfectly suited to Massimiliano Allegri’s game.
However, it would be foolish for Arsene Wenger to let go of the 27-year-old especially after the season he has just undergone. It would in his best interest to give both Ramsey and Wilshere an extension in order to turn the club’s fortunes around.
