Manchester United are plotting a move for highly-rated Republic of Ireland youngster Adam Idah next summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are eager to secure the services of the Norwich City teenager after he caught the eye when he scored a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup final victory over Barnsley earlier in this campaign.
Idah has also been a regular goal-scorer for the Republic of Ireland Under-17 team and has become an integral member of Colin O’Brien’s outfit who have qualified for the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, which kicks off in England later this year. The 17-year-old is the top-scorer of the qualifying rounds with 8 goals to his name, just one ahead of Netherlands and Chelsea youngster Daishawn Redan.
Idah signed for the Canaries from College Corinthians last summer and it is believed that United boss Jose Mourinho is currently on the lookout for a long-term replacement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left the club to ply his trade for LA Galaxy in the Major League Soccer recently. The Portuguese boss reckons that Idah has what it takes to be a prolific goal-scorer for the Red Devils in a few years time.
Only time will tell whether the Canaries wonderkid can continue with his development and fulfil his massive potential in a few years time.
The Manchester side are currently sitting in the second position in the Premier League table with a tally of 65 points in 30 league matches. In any other era, Jose Mourinho’s side would be well in with a chance of winning the league but the record-breaking form of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has seen them lose ground in the race for the league title.
The Citizens of Manchester are ahead in the Premier League by an eye-catching 16 points with the Red Devils desperately trying to catch up with their local rivals. The addition of Idah will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s attacking options in a few years time but for now, it seems like he has to develop his game at the youth level to try and break into the United first-team in the coming years.
At 17, he has immense potential and could turn out to be a Premier League star if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in a nurturing environment. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Idah and whether he ends up making a switch to Old Trafford in the near future.
