Bayern Munich are keen on retaining the services of their Polish striker Robert Lewandowski beyond this season. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga leaders have warned any of his potential suitors that the Poland international will stay at the Allianz Arena.
In a recent interview, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge addressed the forward’s future and was quoted to have said, “I always like to remember 2008, when we had an amazing offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery,”
“From that day on, the whole football world knew: nobody can buy a Bayern Munich player against Bayern Munich’s will. I want to assure that Robert is 100 percent going to play for Bayern next season.”
Lewandowski has been linked with Manchester United recently but a move has failed to materialise. The Bundesliga striker has been in sensational form for the Bavarians since his switch to the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2014. The 29-year-old has made 37 appearances for Jupp Heynckes’s side this season, scoring 32 goals and creating 4 assists in all competitions. At 29, he still has a good few years left in him to play at the top level which Bayern could look to utilise in the coming years.
With Robert Lewandowski set to stay at Bayern Munich, let’s take a look at three potential options for Mourinho to consider in the off-season.
Harry Kane
The English striker has been in a rich vein of form for Tottenham Hotspur in the last few years. He has developed himself into a prolific goal-scorer and at 24, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Mourinho’s side could look to utilise in the coming years. Kane has featured in 39 matches for Spurs this season, finding the back of the net 35 times and providing 4 assists in all competitions.
Timo Werner
The 26-year-old German ace has been lighting up the Bundesliga with his impressive performances for RB Leipzig this season. He has caught the eye with some dazzling displays so far during the course of this campaign which has seen him score 18 goals and provide 6 assists in 37 matches for the Bundesliga club in all competitions. Werner has immense potential to be one of the best strikers in world football and if given the opportunity, he can fulfil his ambitions at Old Trafford.
Gonzalo Higuain
The Argentine forward has been one of the best goal-scorers in the Serie A over the last few years during his time at Napoli and now, at Juventus. He has featured in 39 matches for the Italian giants this term, scoring 22 goals while creating 6 assists in all competitions. At 30, the South American striker still has a good few years left in him to play at the top level which makes him an ideal option for Manchester United to consider.
