Liverpool are eyeing a move for Zorya Luhansk goalkeeper Andriy Lunin next summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are ready to battle it out with Inter Milan, Arsenal and Juventus in pursuit of the Swedish shot-stopper when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. The 19-year-old is currently plying his trade at Zorya Luhansk in the Ukranian league where he has put in some eye-catching performances during the course of this campaign.
Lunin had to settle for a place on the bench in the early parts of this season but soon broke into the first-team and has since put in some dazzling displays in goal for the Ukranian outfit which has alerted some of Europe’s top clubs which include Liverpool. The teenage prospect has also earned an international cap for the Ukranian national team recently when he started in goal versus Saudi Arabia after featuring in just 3 matches for his nation’s Under-21 side.
It is believed that Lunin is valued in the region of €6m as clubs from all across Europe clash heads in pursuit of his signature in this off-season. The Ukrainian starlet has played for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk’s youth sides before switching clubs last summer. Only time will tell whether he can continue with his progression and become one of Europe’s best keepers in the coming years.
Liverpool are currently placed in the 3rd position in the Premier League table following their impressive 5-0 victory over Watford recently. The Reds are an eye-catching 18 points behind the Premier League champions-elect Manchester City going into the business end of the season.
The addition of Lunin will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s goalkeeping options at the club which can help them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years. At 19, he still has a lot of years to grow and develop his game in his quest to fulfil his potential. Lunin has featured in 28 matches for Zorya Luhansk this season, conceding 38 goals and keeping 9 clean sheets in all competitions.
Liverpool has the likes of Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward vying for a place on Jurgen Klopp’s first-team but none of the keepers has been able to put in consistent performances this term. The potential signing of Lunin will definitely add more competition for places in the Reds squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Lunin and whether he ends up making a switch to Merseyside in the near future.
